EMPOWERING YOU TO REDUCE CRIME
Who is watching your neighborhood?
Our neighborhood is just as good as we make it. As your new Code Blue Citizens on Patrol Captain, I want to make sure each block of Ridglea North has Citizens on Patrol (COPS) representation. This will guarantee that our neighborhood stays on top of crime.
Our Neighborhood Police Officer (NPO,) Officer Andy Morquecho , takes crime issues very seriously. His job is to recognize problems before they become a trend or threat to our neighborhood and to rapidly address criminal activity that enters our neighborhood.
No neighborhood is free from crime - that’s just a fact of life. But, we can make a huge impact on reducing crime and sending a message to the criminals by having an active and visible COPS group watching the daily activity within our neighborhood by walking, biking, driving, talking with neighbors, just being observant while going about our daily activities.
It is a proven fact that COPS visibility and presence reduces crime. The Code Blue COPS program that began in Fort Worth has spread with great success across the U.S. and is implemented in varying forms worldwide.
Because you live in Ridglea North, you notice unusual situations or behaviors that just don’t feel right. If it doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t right. As Officer Rick Benson and Detective Mike Carroll taught women at a Personal Situational Awareness program at Mary Louise Phillips Elementary School recently, you must trust your instincts FIRST without trying to rationalize the “why” of a situation. Just dial 911. Let the responding officer evaluate and handle the suspicious person or event.
So, before you begin complaining or telling others about a neighborhood incident, ask yourself “What am I doing to make my neighborhood better?”
“Do I only show concern when I feel that I might become a victim of crime?”
The safest neighborhoods are those where the citizens and NPO work closely to stop crime in its tracks. That is why your Ridglea North COPS group and I need you - NOW.
Some COPS members have been actively keeping our neighborhood safe for more years than others of us have lived here. They are the foundation of this group. Now, it’s time to take things to the next level by getting at least one person from each block of Ridglea North as a COPS representative.
Be pro-active. Consider this a personal invitation to get involved at a level of involvement that fits your schedule and lifestyle by calling my cell phone, 817.239.7533, or Officer Morquecho’s cell phone, 817.372.2418.
